O’Keefe’s Peternal Mountain

Northern New Mexico has always drawn me to the gorge, the mountains, the high desert, and the people. Between the spring of 2003 and the fall of 2005, I camped my way throughout the Western mountains and the Midwest, while wintering in Taos, NM to study painting. This Travel Journal Gallery is based on watercolor sketches I made of moments captured from these travels.

This small watercolor is of a well-known New Mexico shape–the Peternal–a mountain Georgia O’Keefe painted so often. Like O’Keefe, I am continually drawn to landscapes and the alluring light of the Southwest. On this fun day I had stopped by to visit friends who were staying in this cabin at Ghost Ranch in the heart of ‘O’Keefe Country.’
